The same room can appear on Airbnb, Booking.com and the host's own website — at three different prices. Where does the difference come from, and when should you use which?
Where platforms are strong
To be fair, platforms offer real benefits:
- Public reviews from many guests, hard to fake.
- A familiar process: card payment, instant confirmation.
- A middleman who steps in if there's a dispute.
For a short stay of a few nights with a host you know nothing about, a platform is a sensible choice.
Where booking direct is strong
- Lower prices: platforms charge fees to both host and guest. Book direct and those fees disappear.
- Direct contact with the people who actually manage the room.
- More flexibility to switch rooms, extend, or move to a monthly rate — things platforms often handle rigidly.
For stays of several weeks or more, the price difference adds up quickly.
How to book direct safely
The main risk off-platform is a listing that isn't real. A few rules:
- Only book through an official website with a clear address, phone number and business details.
- View the room first if you're already in Da Nang.
- Read the cancellation policy in writing before sending money.
- Pay into a business account and keep the receipt.
- Never pay based only on photos posted on social media.
Booking direct with RentalFM
- Prices on rentalfm.com are typically 5–10% lower than the same room on booking platforms.
- A clear cancellation policy: cancel 30 days or more before check-in for a 100% refund; cancellations within 30 days are non-refundable.
- Every payment is confirmed by our staff and recorded in our system.
